LATROBE, Pa. (March 29) - Hannah Carroll and Maggie Nelson combined to score 11 goals as the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team rolled past Waynesburg, 17-7, in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action at the SVC Turf.

The Bearcats were dominant offensively from the get-go, taking a 9-1 lead with 10:57 left in the first half. SVC would hold a 10-3 lead at the halftime break. Freshman Naomi Schwaiger opened the scoring, with a goal less than a minute in off a pass from Nelson. Sarah Wallerstedt added the next score less than a minute later off a pass from Helena Shoplik. After a Waynesburg goal made it 2-1, SVC responded with the next seven goals, six of which were by Carroll or Nelson. Waynesburg would add two late first half goals to chip into the SVC lead.

Schwaiger, a Greater Latrobe graduate, started the second half with another score to push the Bearcats' lead to 11-3. Waynesburg tried to put together a rally shortly thereafter, scoring back-to-back goals to make it 12-5. However, SVC countered with five straight goals, all of which came from Nelson, Carroll or Wallerstedt. Waynesburg finished out the scoring with the final two goals late in the contest.

Individually, Carroll led the offense with six goals and two assists, while Nelson added in five goals and four assists in the victory. Wallerstedt totaled six points (four goals, two assists), while Schwaiger chipped in two scores as well. Junior Holly Bachman led the visiting Yellow Jackets with six goals and nine draw controls.

Defensively, freshman Maria Franey collected 10 saves in the victory. Sophomore Alex Piampiano picked up five ground balls and forced three turnovers. Wallerstedt had a team-best five draw controls for SVC.

The Bearcats out-shot Waynesburg by a 36-20 margin, including a 26-17 differential on goal. Waynesburg committed 27 turnovers and only was successful on 5 of 16 clear attempts.

Saint Vincent improves to 3-0 in the ORLC and 3-6 overall. Meanwhile, Waynesburg dropped to 0-2 in the league and 0-5 overall.
