WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 21) - The Saint Vincent softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader at Waynesburg University. The Yellow Jackets took game one 4-1 before SVC rallied late in game two for a 6-3 win.
Waynesburg got off to a fast start in game one, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Yellow Jackets scored four runs, none of which were off of a hit. Scoring on a walk, two on RBI groundouts and one on a sacrifice fly. SVC scored its lone run on an RBI single by
Samantha Emert in the sixth inning.
Saint Vincent had plenty of opportunities to make a comeback late, loading the bases in the sixth and seventh innings. The Bearcats lost a baserunner in the seventh inning after an appeal on a tag up play at second base.
Emert took the loss for SVC, falling to 10-5 on the season. Emert worked six innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits. The junior struck out two and walked three in the contest.

Emily Duerr,
Kelly Flaherty and
Morgan Murphy each recorded two hits in game one.
The Bearcats scored first in game two, as Duerr brought home
Sarah Swettlen on an RBI groundout in the top of the first. Waynesburg used a pair of doubles in the bottom of the frame to tie it at 1-1.
SVC regained the lead in the top of the fourth. Emert reached on an error with one out and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Flaherty then reached on an error and freshman
Alexus Fearer, scored from second after pinch running for Emert, making it 2-1.
Noel helped SVC stretch the lead to 3-1, using an RBI single to score
Courtney Patterson, after she reached with a leadoff double.
Waynesburg rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, tying the score at 3-3. Emert entered in relief of Duerr in the circle, escaping further damage and giving SVC a chance in the seventh.
Needing the split, SVC responded with a three-spot in the top of the seventh. Murphy led off with a single and stole second. Swettlen, the lone senior in the starting lineup in game two, produced a clutch RBI double to put the Bearcats up 4-3. Noel and Emert added RBI singles to give SVC some insurance in the 6-3 win.
SVC racked up 10 hits in game two. Patterson, Noel and
Mackenzie Gostomski recorded multi-hit performances in game two. Emert got the win in relief, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings. Duerr started and surrendered three runs on six hits in 5.2 innings.
Saint Vincent moves to 21-11 overall and 9-5 in the PAC. Waynesburg now sits at 15-21 overall and 6-8 in the league.
Saint Vincent returns to action when they host Chatham for Senior Day on Saturday, April 23. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
