HANOVER, Ind. (April 9) - The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team claimed an 11-3 road victory over Hanover (Ind.) in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.
The Bearcats got out to a big lead early and coasted to the victory, which improved SVC to 4-1 in ORLC play and 4-8 overall. With the loss, Hanover dropped to 1-5 in the league and 4-9 overall.
Saint Vincent scored the first five goals of the contest. During the early game run, junior 
Sarah Wallerstedt and sophomore 
Maggie Nelson each recorded two goals while sophomore 
Katie Stallings added a score.
From that point the two teams exchanged the final four goals of the opening half, as SVC took a 7-2 edge into halftime.
The second half appeared to be a defensive struggle, as neither team scored for more than 16 minutes before SVC broke the ice. Stallings took a pass from senior 
Kelsey McMillen to score and give SVC an 8-2 lead with 13:08 to play. Hanover quickly answered back, scoring off the ensuing draw control, to make it 8-3.
However, SVC controlled the rest of the contest, scoring three more runs while holding the Panthers scoreless. Nelson, 
Helena Shoplik and Carroll added the final three scoring tallies of the game for Saint Vincent.
Individually, Nelson led the offense with four goals and two assists. Carroll added four points (two goals, two assists). Wallerstedt and Stallings contributed two goals each in the win. Freshman 
Maria Franey got the win in net, playing all 60 minutes.
The Bearcats out-shot the Panthers by a 23-10 margin, while also picking up more groundballs (24-17). SVC was successful on 15 of 17 clear attempts, while Hanover struggled as they cleared only 6 of 20 successfully.
Saint Vincent travels to rival Thiel College on Wednesday, April 13 for another ORLC contest. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
