Saint Vincent tops both Waynesburg, Westminster in PAC action


WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 15) - The Saint Vincent volleyball team defeated Waynesburg 3-0 before rallying from an early hole to down Westminster 3-2 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. 

In the first match of the evening, the Bearcats won by set scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-20 over the Yellow Jackets. 

Senior outside hitter Kayla Stockenus and freshman hitter Sarah Wozniak led the way with 8 kills each. The duo combined for 16 kills and only 2 attack errors against the Jackets. 

Sophomore setter Marisa O'Dell added 19 assists, six kills and three blocks. Sophomore libero Sydni Massinger racked up 10 digs. 

In the nightcap, Westminster claimed the first two sets, edging SVC in the first set 26-24 before taking the second by a score of 25-16.

Facing an uphill climb, the Bearcats battled back. SVC took the next two sets, 25-16 and 25-16, tying the match at 2-2. In the fifth set, Saint Vincent used the momentum to complete the rally, claiming the decisive set by a 15-9 margin.

Wozniak paced the Bearcats with a match-high 13 kills. Stockenus and senior outside hitter Emily Vaughan each added 11 kills to help the SVC attack. O'Dell racked up 31 assists and nine kills. Massinger had 21 digs, while Vaughan chipped in 18 digs. 

The sweep improved SVC to 2-1 in PAC play and 6-6 overall. Saint Vincent returns home for a non-conference tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 17. The Bearcats host Penn State Fayette at 11 a.m. then face Mount Aloysius at 3 p.m. in the Carey Center.
