The SVC women's soccer team tied Juniata College 2-2, the team's fourth tie of the season, in its final non-conference tuneup.
The game was evenly played from start to finish, with the Bearcats getting on the board first. Â
Molly Drach sent a direct kick into the box from 35 yards out, finding the head of
Lauren Czerwien. Â Czerwien's header into the net was her first goal of the season and came in the game's 26th minute. Â SVC's defense kept the Golden Eagles off the board, so the Bearcats went into the halftime break up 1-0.
In the 53rd minute, a cross into the box by Carly Altenberg was redirected slightly by the head of Alexis Ulrich, just enough to beat SVC keeper Corrinne Burk and tie the game, 1-1. Â Three minutes later, Samantha Bromley took a shot off a rebound in the box and found the lower right corner of the net to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
SVC trailed until the 74th minute, when
Maggie Nelson turned and sent a pass outside the box to
Calsey Holshue, who blasted a 25-yard shot into the upper right corner of the net to tie the game.
Both teams had opportunities the rest of regulation and through 20 minutes of overtime, but neither team was able to score. Â
Saint Vincent is now 1-3-4 on the season. Â The four ties equals the program's record, set over the course of 19 games in 2008. Â Juniata is now 3-3-3. Â The Bearcats will now prepare for the opening of Presidents' Athletic Conference play, which begins Saturday (October 1) at Thomas More College.
