BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Sept. 29) - Despite pushing Geneva to the limit in the first two sets, the Saint Vincent volleyball team lost 3-0 to the host Golden Tornadoes in Beaver County.
The Bearcats fell by set scores of 29-27, 30-28 and 25-16. Saint Vincent faced set point in the first, leading 26-25 and 27-26 but could not capitalize to take the set. SVC then led 28-27 after a bad set by Geneva only to see the GT's score the final three points for the set win.
Seniors
Emily Samara and
Emily Vaughan helped to pace the offense. Samara registered a match-best 14 kills on the evening, while Vaughan tallied 10 kills. Sophomore
Marisa O'Dell picked up 22 sets, nine kills and five digs.
Sydni Massinger led the defense with 23 digs, while Vaughan chipped in 16 digs.
The loss drops SVC to 3-4 in the PAC and 9-10 overall. Meanwhile, Geneva improved to 7-1 in the league and 12-5 overall.
Saint Vincent returns to action with a home tri-match Saturday, October 1. SVC hosts Westminster at 1 p.m. in PAC play before taking on Medaille (N.Y) at 5 p.m. in a non-conference matchup.
