PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Jan. 13) - The Saint Vincent women's swimming team opened 2017 with a Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Chatham by a meet score of 162-101 at Sigo Falk Natatorium.
The women's team improves to 3-1 in the conference and 4-2 overall.
Leading the way for the Bearcats was senior
Marla Turk, who won three events individually. In the 200 Backstroke, she came in with a time of 2:14.42.
Turk was a part of a sweep in the 200 Butterfly, clocking in with a time of 2:18.04.
Casi Smith and
Amelia Rashid finished second and third in the event, respectively.
In Turk's final performance, she broke the Chatham pool record in the 400 Individual Medley, touching the wall at 4:46.43.
Maddie Bartrug put together a solid evening as well, winning the 50 and 100 Free, with times of 25.33 and 54.99, respectively. Bartrug was also a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay team, with a time of 1:55.06. Joining Bartrug was
Sarah Sheldon,
Grace Reynolds, and
Marissa Frollo. The sophomore ended her night with a win the 200 Free relay, teaming up with
Ciara Lewis, Clara Kenna and Frollo, for a time of 1:43.53.
The women took the top three spots in 200 Free, as Frollo finished in first place with a time of 2:09.07.
Gabby Bobak clocked in at 2:10.05 for second place while
Samantha Mears claimed third with a time of 2:12.53.
Kelly Kramer posted two first places on the evening. Kramer led the way in the 200 Breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:32.87 and also took top honors in 100 Butterfly, with a time of 1:02.94.
Lewis finished first in the 100 Back, with a time of 1:04.10.
Hannah Barkey touched the wall first with a time of 5:39.24 in the 500 Free.
The Bearcats will be back in action hosting Allegheny College on Saturday, Jan. 14 (tomorrow). Meet time is set for 1p.m. at Resnik Pool.
