NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 21) – Both the Saint Vincent men's and women's swimming teams suffered road defeat to Westminster College in Presidents' Athletic Conference competition.
The women suffered a 163-128 setback, which snapped the Bearcats' winning streak at four straight. The loss drops the SVC women to 4-2 in the conference and 5-3 overall.
In the men's matchup, SVC fell by a 170-96 score. The men's team now sits at 2-2 in the conference and 2-5 overall for the season.
The quartet of
Sarah Sheldon,
Grace Reynolds,
Kelly Kramer and
Ciara Lewis gave the Bearcats a strong start, winning the 200 Medley relay, posting a time of 1:54.07.
Maddie Bartrug, the reigning PAC women's swimmer of the week, had another strong meet, posting three individual wins on the day. The sophomore took first place in the 200 Free, clocking in at time of 1:57.95. She then tallied another first place finish, touching the wall at 25.59 in the 50 Free. Bartrug finished up her individual performances with a win in the 500 Free, timing in at 5:17.84.
Bartrug was also a part of the winning 400 Free Relay team, along with
Marla Turk,
Marissa Frollo, and Lewis. The quartet posted a time of 3:46.08.
In the 100 Backstroke, Sheldon took top honors with a time of 1:02.93. Lewis was the winner in the 100 Free, clocking in at a time of 55.85. Meanwhile, Turk took the top spot in the 200 Backstroke, with a time of 2:17.29.
On the men's side, the top performance came from
Alex Bolen, who claimed a come-from-behind victory in the 1000 Free. The junior pulled ahead of his competitor late in the race to win by a three-second margin, clocking in at 10:15.73.
Jacob Davis added two-second place finishes. In the 50 Free, the sophomore finished with a time of 22.01, and in the 100 Free he finished in 47.62.
Xander Emili also recorded two-second place finishes for the Bearcats. Emili touched the wall in 2:03.43 in the 200 Butterfly, while finishing in at 2:18.40 in the 200 Breaststroke.
Saint Vincent will return to action with a Senior Day matchup against Penn State-Behrend on Saturday, January 28. Meet time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
