SVC concludes Florida trip with 14-7 loss

Errors again plagued the Bearcats in a 14-7 loss to Iowa Wesleyan to end the Spring Break trip to Florida.

SVC committed 8 miscues in the contest, leading to nine unearned runs.

The Bearcats got on the board in the bottom of the second, when Eddie Kilkeary led off with a  single then moved up when TJ Kuny reached on an error.  Chris Winkler.

The Tigers came back with four runs in the top of the third, getting three hits, drawing a pair of walks and a hit batsman.

SVC got two runs back in the bottom of the inning without a hit.  With one out, Matt Morrone was hit by a pitch, and Patrick Mahon drew a walk.  Bobby Finn followed with another free pass, and Greg Martin drove home a run on a line drive that was barely collared by the left fielder.  Morrone scored on the play to make it 4-2.  After Kilkeary walked to reload the bases, Kuny was hit by a pitch, scoring Mahon to make it 4-3.

Down 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Martin hit a solo home run over the right field wall to cut the deficit to two.

Iowa Wesleyan added a pair of runs in the top of the 6th, but the Bearcats answered with two in the bottom of the inning.  Pinch-hitter Ramon Milke led off with a single then moved to second on a single by Morrone.  Mahon flew out but both runners were able to advance, then Milke scored on a balk.  Finn singled home Morrone to make the score 8-6.

Once again, the Tigers added three run in the 7th, all unearned run on three SVC errors.

Down 11-6, Kilkeary led off the bottom of the 7th with a long home run over the concrete wall in left field, but it wasn't enough, as SVC ended the trip with a record of 3-4.

Pietrantoni worked the first six innings, giving up 4 earned runs, taking the loss.

Saint Vincent will return to action on Friday (March 17) in Newport News, Virginia for a three-day tournament hosted by the Newport News Apprentice School.
