The SVC baseball team lost the opening game of its Virginia swing, 9-0 to host Newport News Apprentice School.

Saint Vincent managed just three hits on the afternoon, while yielding 17 to the Builders.

Bearcat starter Dave Culeton gave up four runs on five hits in the bottom of the second, and the hosts added a single run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.  Parker Janosko, Tanner Yard and Chris Winkler each singled for the Bearcats.

Culeton (1-1) worked four innings, giving up five earned runs and taking the loss.  Dylan Stark worked a scoreless inning in relief.

The Bearcats continue the trip with a split doubleheader on Saturday (March 18).  SVC faces the Apprentice School at 10AM, followed by a game against 11th-ranked Tufts University at 1PM.
