The Bearcat baseball team opened an early 8-2 lead over visiting Bethany College, but the Bison came back for a 10-8 win at Bearcat Ballfield.

The Bison got on the board first, scoring a pair of runs on a double by Tyler Frazee in the top of the first.

The lead didn't last long, as the Bearcats stormed back in the bottom of the inning.  Tanner Yard led off with a double down the line.  He had to hold at second on an infield single by TJ Kuny, then Greg Martin was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Patrick McElfish then stepped up and crushed a grand slam over the scoreboard in left center field, giving SVC a 4-2 lead.

Eddie Kilkeary and Ramon Milke both drew walks, and Brennan Hoffer singled home Kilkeary.  Stone Holtzman reached on a fielder's choice and Yard drew a walk, setting up Chris Winkler for a 2-run double that made it 7-2 after just one inning.

The Bearcats added a run in the second, and the Bison started the third with three straight hits – a pair of doubles and a single – that drove in a run.  SVC starter Fred Gillespie w

as lifted for Luke Spisak, and the next batter hit a high line drive that Yard climbed the ladder to grab.  Yard threw to first to double the runner off the base, then Spisak got a flyout to end the inning with the Bearcats in front, 8-3.

The Bison came back with four runs in the top of the fifth before Dylan Pietrantoni came out of the pen to record the last out of the inning and end the threat.  Milke made a shoestring catch on the run in right field on a fly hit by Brandon Wagner and preserve the one-run lead.

However, Bethany then added a pair of runs in the sixth, taking advantage of three walks, to secure their first lead of the game, 9-8, and added a late, unearned insurance run.

Pietrantoni (0-4) took the loss on the hill.  Ben Davis threw well in relief, working the final 3 1/3 and giving up just one unearned run.  McElfish was 2-for-2 with 4 RBI, while Kilkeary was 2-3 and walked twice.
