APOLLO, Pa. (Sept. 17) - A strong day two helped the Saint Vincent men's golf team to a fifth place finish at the Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout, which was played at the Links at Spring Church.
Nate Yackovich was the Bearcats' top finisher, using the round of the day to tie for fifth place overall. After shooting a 75 on Saturday, Yackovich carded the low round of the final round with a 68 for a two day total of 143.
Jimmy Dolan finished tied for 16th after a strong round Sunday, carding a 72 for a two day total of 149.
J.P. Duffy improved by eight shots in the final round (79-71) to tie for 18th place.
Brendan Shaughnessy (76-82) and
Brandon Silvis (86-84) rounded out the Bearcats competitors at the event.
Louis Olsakovsky of Allegheny took individual medalist honors, winning in a playoff with a two-day total of 140 (70-70). Host Carnegie Mellon University claimed the team title with a total of 570. As a team, Saint Vincent improved by 14 shots from day one. The Bearcats finished with a team score of 600 (307-293) at the event.
Saint Vincent returns to competition at the La Roche College Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The event will be played at Wildwood Golf Club in Allison Park.
