The SVC women's bowling team opened the 2018-19 season with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Penn State-Behrend in a match held at Hillview Lanes in Greensburg.
Saint Vincent won the traditional games by scores of 745-657 and 834-704, then won the Best-of-7 Baker set by a 4-3 margin.
The Bearcats got off to a quick start in game one, leading from start to finish, en route to an 88-pin victory. Sophomore captain
Dani Koehler shot a 166 to lead the way, with freshman
Meghan Christman finishing with a 164.
In game two, Koehler opened the game with 5 consecutive strikes, leading the Bearcats to a win by a 134-pin margin. Koehler finished with a 222, throwing 8 strikes in the game. Christman shot 171, while freshman
Lexi Cobbin shot a 163 and
Abby Kyle finished with a 158.
The match then moved into a Best-of-7 Baker series for the third point of the night. SVC won the first two games, but the Lions fought back for wins in games 3-4. The Bearcats won the fifth game by 9 pins, but the Lions stormed back to win game six, taking advantage of two SVC splits. In the deciding seventh game, SVC started well, but a spilt in the third frame and opens in frames 4 and 7 gave the Lions a 10-pin lead. However, a spare by Kyle in the 8th and a strike in the 9th by Christman gave SVC the advantage, and the team held on for a 5-pin win to earn the final point of the match, 4-3.
Saint Vincent is now 3-0 on the year, while Behrend drops to 0-13. The teams will square off again on Tuesday night, October 30, at Eastland Bowl in Erie. The match will begin at 6PM.
