LATROBE, Pa. (Dec. 1) - The Saint Vincent College swimming team picked up a pair of wins over Washington & Jefferson College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet at Resnik Pool.
The Bearcat women won by a 121-75 score over the Presidents. Meanwhile, the SVC men claimed a 114-86 win over W&J.
The women's team began the meet with the quartet of
Ciara Lewis,
Carly Grove,
Lauren Krecota, and
Maddie Bartrug claiming the top spot in the 200 Medley Relay. Their time was 1:57.51.
Bartrug would also claim the first in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 11:32.02. Senior
Jill Cline would take second place, touching the wall at 12:42.23.
In the 200 Freestyle, Lewis would take first place, clocking in at 2:07.47. Close behind was
Samantha Mears, who finished in second place at 2:11.34.
The 100 Backstroke would see
Marion D'Aurora finish first with a time of 1:05.5.
In the 100 Breaststroke, Grove would return to the top, touching the wall at 1:13.89. Krecota would also return to the top, winning the 200 Fly with a time of 2:25.63. Junior
Nicolette Smith took second place in the 200 Fly, clocking in at 2:43.22.
The 50 Free would see D'Aurora take first place and Mears second; their times were 26.05 and 26.27 respectively. D'Aurora would also win the 100 Freestyle with a notable time of 58.30.
Lewis would win the 200 Backstroke, clocking in at 2:25.35. Grove would also dominate the 200 Breaststroke, with a strong time of 2:39.08.
In the 500, the freshman Krecota won with a time of 5:46.70. The 100 Fly would then see Bartrug victorious, clocking in at 1:02.80. Mears would finish in second behind Bartrug, at 1:06.42. Lewis would then win the 200 IM with a strong 2:27.66.
The quartet of Krecota, Mears, D'Aurora, and Bartrug would win the 200 Freestyle Relay, touching the wall at 1:47.73.
The men's team began equally strong, with
Andrew Rectenwald,
John Martin,
Zach Baum, and
Jacob Davis claiming victory in the 200 Medley Relay with a notable 1:39.10.
Kevin Martin dominated the 1000 Freestyle, clocking in at a 10:47.38. Freshman
Ethan Yant would also be victorious in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:56.90.
In the 100 Backstroke, Davis would claim the top spot with a strong time of 54.19.
Peter Becker would also come out on top in the 100 Breast, finishing with a 1:03.64.
Baum would return to the top in the 200 Fly, rocketing to the finish and touching the wall at 2:02.05.
J. Martin would narrowly be out-touched in the 50 Freestyle, coming in second place with a time of 23.01. He would come up short again in the 100 Freestyle in an even closer race, touching the wall at 50.48, finishing second.
Davis would find victory in the 200 Backstroke, clocking in at 2:00.64. Becker would also be victorious in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:22.85.
In the 500 Freestyle, Baum would win with a strong 5:26.90. Freshman
Josh Ligus would finish in second not long after, touching the wall at 5:27.21.
The 100 Fly would find senior
Michael Marinchak finishing in second place after a competitive race. Regardless, he finished with a noteworthy 55.20.
Baum would find the top again in the 200 IM, clocking in at 2:05.99. Rectenwald would finish in second place with a time of 2:07.84.
The men would conclude the meet with a victory in the 200 Freestyle; the quartet of Yant, Davis,
Danny Whirlow, and J. Martin would clock in at 1:29.69.
The Bearcats' next meet will be against the University of Mount Union. It is a home meet, and will start at 6 pm on Friday, December 7th.
