The Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy College scored three runs in the top of the first and never looked back, defeating SVC by a score of 17-7 in Winter Haven, Florida.
Josh Lopez hit a three-run home run in the top of the first off SVC starter
Ramon Milke, and the Bearcats answered with one run in the bottom of the first.

Tanner Yard walked to lead off, then moved up when
Matt Morrone reached on an error, moving Yard to third.Â
Eddie Kilkeary hit into a double play, but Yard scored to make it a 3-1 game.

Down 5-1 in the bottom of the second, the Bearcats loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a hit batsman, and a passed ball scored
Nick LaCava, making it a 5-2 game.

The Griffins led 9-2 going to the bottom of the third, but SVC's Morrone once again reached on an error to lead off. Kilkeary moved him to second with a single, and a flyout by
Bobby Finn moved Morrone to third.Â
Patrick McElfish then followed with an RBI single. LaCava then singled home Kilkeary, making the score 9-4. However, the Bearcats stranded three runners.

The score was 13-4 in the bottom of the fifth but the Bearcats came back with three runs. Finn and McElfish started the inning by drawing walks, then advanced on a balk. LaCava then doubled home a run. After
Shane Fajt reached on a fielder's choice that failed to produce an out and loaded the bases,
Parker Janosko drew a walk that brought home a run. Another run scored on a passed ball, but the Bearcats once again stranded runners on all bases, with the score 13-7.  Gwynedd Mercy added four runs in the later innings.

Milke (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Saint Vincent.Â

The Bearcats return to action on Thursday (March 8), facing Trine University at 930AM in Auburndale, FL. The team also announced a change for its doubleheader on Friday. The opponent will now be Anderson University of Indiana due to travel issues caused by weather in the Northeast.Â
