In a closely contested match, the Bearcats fell to Washington & Jefferson by a score of 6-3 in men's tennis action at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
Ryan Hartz and
Zach Fox got Saint Vincent on the board with its first point of the day in doubles competition, posting an 8-6 win in the #2 position. Â However, the Presidents captured the other two doubles points, taking a 2-1 lead going into singles play.
Jon Oskin (#2) and Hartz (#3) were both winners in their matches, but SVC dropped the other four matches.  Oskin bounced back from a 3-0 deficit in the first set to win 6-4, 6-3.  Hartz split his first two sets, then won the tiebreaker, 10-4.
In the #1 match,
Jonathan Prichard won the first set in convincing fashion, 6-1, but dropped the second, 6-3.  The match went to the 10-point tiebreaker, but Prichard lost, 10-3.
At #4, Fox lost two close sets, 7-5 and 6-4. Â In the #6 position,
Alex DeLuca won a 7-6 first set, dropped the second set 6-4, then took the tiebreaker to an extended 11-9 finish.
SVC is now 4-2 in the conference, and will conclude the home portion of the Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule with a match on Sunday (April 15) against Thiel College. Â
