SVC wasted no time getting on the board in the opener, scoring a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first.
Â
Stone Holtzman reached on an error with one out, then moved to third when
Matt Morrone doubled down the left field line. With two outs,
Eddie Kilkeary hit a single to right center, scoring both runs.
Â
The Bearcats added to their lead in the third. Finn doubled and later scored on a single by
Patrick McElfish, making it 3-0.
Â
After the Bison got a couple of runs in the top of the 4th off SVC starter
Jimmy Malone, SVC answered right back. With two outs,
Tanner Yard singled, then moved to second when Holtzman reached on an error. Morrone singled home Yard to make it a 4-2 game, then Finn singled, scoring Holtzman to once again make it a 3-run game, 5-2.
Â
However, the Bison refused to give up, scoring once in the 8th then getting a pair of singles to lead off the 9th.Â
Matt Evans then came out of the bullpen in relief of Malone, but the Bison added two more hits and tied the game, 5-5.
Â
In the bottom of the 9th, Kilkeary singled to lead off. With one out, pinch-hitter
Brady Duricko stepped up, and perfectly placed a single to right on a hit-and-run, moving Kilkeary to third.Â
Joe Rudzinski followed with a fly ball to center, and Kilkeary tagged and scored the game-winning run.
Â
Evans (4-1) picked up the win in relief, while Neil Woods (0-2) pitched the 9th and took the loss.Â
The Bearcats got on board in the second inning of game two, as they sent 9 batters to the plate against Bison starter Luke Gapinski. Finn was hit by a pitch to lead off, and Kilkeary followed with a single. Duricko then reached on an error, loading the bases, and
Hunter Mills followed with an RBI single, keeping the bases loaded.Â
Shane Fajt also singled, to make it 2-0, then Yard doubled to right and drove home two more, giving the Bearcats a 4-0 lead.
Â
The Bison got a run back in the fourth inning, then added an unearned run in the fifth, cutting the gap to 4-2.
Â
In the home half of the fifth, Finn doubled to deep left field, and Kilkeary was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Duricko followed with a double to the gap in left center that plated Finn, and Mills followed with a sacrifice fly to score Kilkeary to make it 6-2 in favor of the Bearcats.
Â
A pair of errors led to two runs in the top of the 6th for the Bison to make the score 6-4.
Â
In the bottom of the 7th, Morrone led off with a bunt single, and took second due to an errant throw to first. A wild pitch moved Morrone to third, and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Finn, putting SVC in front, 7-4.Â
Â
From there, reliever
Ben Davis shut down the Bison, earning his second save.Â
Matt Whittaker (3-3) worked the first six innings, giving up 2 earned runs, walking one and striking out six for the win.
Â
Yard led the offense with three hits in the second game, five on the afternoon.
Â
With the wins, the Bearcats are now 10-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, while Bethany drops to 6-10. SVC will conclude the home portion of the schedule on Monday (April 30), hosting Pitt-Greensburg in non-conference play. PAC action will conclude on Saturday (May 5) as the Bearcats travel to Kentucky to face Thomas More College.
