WASHINGTON, Pa. (May 11) – After pulling off a major victory Friday on the opening day of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament, the Saint Vincent College baseball team saw its season end Saturday with a pair of decisive losses to Thomas More and Washington & Jefferson.

In the first game of the day, Thomas More scored early and often to take down Saint Vincent by an 11-1 score. In the nightcap, host W&J used a seven-run first inning en route to a 15-2 victory over the Bearcats in an elimination game.

The Saints plated a run each in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 advantage. Thomas More would make a dent into the scoreboard, putting up six runs in the third inning to extend its advantage to 8-0. TMC added two more runs in the fourth and another run in the fifth to swell the lead to 11-0.

Saint Vincent would break up the shutout in the bottom of the seventh inning. TJ Dailey led off the frame with a single and came around to score on a throwing error by Thomas More. That run made the score 11-1 in favor of the Saints.

Senior pitcher Matt Whittaker started and suffered the loss, surrendering four earned runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of work. Whittaker struck out one and walked two as his record dropped to 3-4.

Ryan Shirley, Nick Hesselbirg, Fred Gillespie and Jacob Schott each pitched a scoreless inning each in relief out of the Bearcat bullpen.

A day after falling to Saint Vincent, the Presidents jumped on the Bearcats from the opening inning Friday evening. W&J scored seven runs on five hits in the first. Only two of the seven runs in the opening inning were earned, as the Presidents took advantage of a pair of Bearcat errors. W&J tacked on three more runs on two hits and two errors in the second inning to push the lead to 10-0.

After Matt Evans blanked the Presidents in the third and fourth innings, W&J picked up two more unearned runs in the fifth to take a 12-0 lead. The Presidents tacked on another run in the sixth to make it 13-0.

Saint Vincent got on the board when Nick LaCava led off with a single and scored on an RBI groundout by Will Tsal. The Bearcats tacked on another run when Tom Bash singled home James Borkowski to make the score 13-2. W&J tallied two runs in the ninth to close the game at 15-2.

Bash and Eddie Kilkeary recorded two hits each against W&J to pace the offense. Brenden Lavely started and suffered the loss on the mound for SVC.

Thomas More (23-17) will face the Presidents in Saturday's PAC Championship Round. W&J (27-15-1) will have to beat Thomas More twice on Saturday to claim the conference title.

Saint Vincent finishes the season with a 15-21 overall record.

Please Note: At the conclusion of the PAC Tournament on Saturday, junior first baseman Bobby Finn and sophomore pitcher Jimmy Malone were selected to the PAC Baseball All-Tournament Team.
