The Bearcat women's tennis team earned a close 5-4 win over Penn State-Altoona on the road in non-conference play.
Saint Vincent started slowly in doubles, dropping two of three matches. The lone win came at third doubles, where Livia Wentworth and Lauren Hartner battled to a 9-8 (4) victory.
The Lions struck first in singles to extend their lead to 3-1, before Lisa Marthens secured a straight sets victory at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-3. After a hard fought second singles loss Saint Vincent reeled off four straight wins to capture the win.
Coming off Presidents' Athletic Conference rookie of the week honors, Maura Skelley rolled to a straight sets win at third singles by the score of 6-3, 7-5. Wentworth again used a tie-breaker in the third set to capture the fifth singles point, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8. With the match tied at 4-all, Kate Palko sealed the victory for the Bearcats with a 7-6 (9), 6-1 victory at sixth singles.
With the win, Saint Vincent's record improves to 2-1 on the year. The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, September 19 at 3:30pm for a PAC road match up with the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets.
