WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 19) - The Saint Vincent College women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference road win over the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets.
The Bearcats second doubles team of
Autumn Miller and
Lisa Marthens got the day started with an 8-2 victory. Next off the courts was the third doubles team of
Livia Wentworth and
Lauren Hartner, who claimed an 8-0 win. Shortly thereafter,
Lucy Bujdos and
Maura Skelley, finished off an 8-0 victory of their own at first doubles.
Singles play was highlighted by two 6-0, 6-0 straight sets wins at second and sixth singles respectively. With her win at sixth singles, sophomore
Grace Harris earned her first collegiate victory. Saint Vincent also won the remaining four points in straight sets, including the clinching match, a 6-0, 6-1 win for Skelley at third singles.
The victory has the Bearcats' record at 3-1 (1-0 PAC) on the year heading into a weekend of PAC matches. The first of those matches will be on Friday, September 21 as Saint Vincent travels to Washington & Jefferson for a night match with the Presidents. The match is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
