In the first meet of the new year, the Saint Vincent swimming teams traveled to snow-covered Allegheny College for a non-conference matchup. The women's team fell 227-61, and the men's team lost by a score of 174-110.
Both teams' records go to 2-4 overall.
In the women's 200 Medley Relay, the quartet of
Ciara Lewis,
Carly Grove,
Maddie Bartrug, and
Claire Kenna began the day with a strong second-place finish, clocking in at 1:57.48. Bartrug would then go on to be narrowly out-touched in the 200 Free; she hit the wall at 1:59.83, missing first place by .3 seconds.
Lewis would also take second place after a competitive race in 50 Free, finishing at 25.94.
In the 500 Free, freshman
Lauren Krecota finished in second place, clocking in at 5:45.61; another strong finish for the women's team.
The men's team began the meet with an explosive 200 Medley Relay.
Andrew Rectenwald,
John Martin,
Jacob Davis, and
Danny Whirlow claimed victory with a time of 1:42.16.
Sophomore
Kevin Martin would put on a notable performance in the 1000 Free, finishing in second with a time of 10:42.19.
Davis would claim victory again in the 200 Free, clocking in at 1:47.97; J. Martin would come up short in the 100 Breast, finishing in second with a time of 1:04.18.
Benon Brewer's strong showing in the 50 free would net him second place; his time was 23.92. In the 100 free, Davis would be victorious again, as he touched the wall at 47.36.
Rectenwald would claim the top spot in 200 Back, clocking in at 2:07.86. And after a competitive 100 Fly, Whirlow would come in second place, finishing with a 57.94. Rectenwald then find himself narrowly out-touched in the 200 IM, missing first by .04 seconds. His time was a 2:06.35.
To end the meet, Davis, J. Martin, Whirlow, and senior
Michael Marinchak topped the 200 Free Relay, clocking in at 1:30.55.
The Bearcats' next meet will find them on the road again, traveling to Westminster College on Saturday, January 26th. The meet will start at 1 pm.
