Women's basketball travels to Ohio


The Saint Vincent College women's basketball team traveled to Baldwin Wallace University to face the Yellow Jackets in a non-conference matchup. The Bearcats fell on the road, 68-55.

Baldwin Wallace opened an early 4-0 lead but Jenna Lafko got Saint Vincent on the board. However, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Bearcats 15-4 and extended the lead to 13 (19-6) with 4:11 remaining in the first. 

After a SVC timeout, Kayla Slovenec made a layup for the Bearcats but the hosts answered right back and held the lead until the end of the first, 27-12.

Saint Vincent started the second on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to single digits as Madison Kollar scored eight of the points. The Yellow Jackets responded by scoring the next seven points to increase their lead to 14 (36-22). SVC tried to reduce the deficit but BW kept control and eventually led 43-27 at halftime.

In the third, the Bearcats were only able to score two consecutive baskets as they were outscored 17-9 in the period and trailed 60-35 as the game headed into the final period of regulation.

SVC began the fourth by scoring the first eight points and was behind 60-43 with 6:59 remaining. The Bearcats did not back down as they 20 in the period compared to eight for the Yellow Jackets but Saint Vincent ultimately fell, 68-55. 

Kollar led Saint Vincent with 22 points on the evening as she shot .500 (9-18) from the field. Lafko was the only other Bearcat in double digits with 11 points. Slovenec finished with a game-high 11 rebounds.

Saint Vincent is now 2-1 on the season and will host Juniata College on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Start time is 5:30 p.m.
