Bearcats surge past Eagles

The Saint Vincent College women's basketball team hosted Juniata College in a non-conference game. The Bearcats won in dominate fashion, 93-56.

Junior Madison Kollar made a transition layup off a pass from Carlee Kilgus for the first points of the game. Juniata tied the game after two free throws at the 8:30 mark. Kollar regained the lead for Saint Vincent with a layup and making the free throw after she was fouled.

The Eagles pulled within one but the Bearcats went on a 9-2 run to open a 14-6 lead with 5:51 left in the first. Juniata cut the deficit to two after scoring six-straight points but SVC had an answer.

The Bearcats closed out the first period with a 16-2 run including six points from Paige Montrose. Saint Vincent held the 30-14 lead going into the second.

In the first seven-plus minutes of the second period, SVC outscored Juniata 17-2 as Stephanie Vaughn and Jenna Lafko scored five and four points in that span, respectively. Both teams exchanged baskets in the final two minutes of the half as Averie Hess made back-to-back shots in the final minute.

Saint Vincent held its lead as both teams went to their respective locker rooms, 47-25.

In the second half, it was all Bearcats as they kept their commanding lead. At one point in the fourth quarter, SVC increased the advantage to 40 (91-51). SVC went on to win by the final, 93-56.

Lafko led all scorers with 14 points, shooting .700 (7-10) from the field. Kayla Slovenec added 13 points, six steals and five rebounds. Madison Kollar and Paige Montrose each finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively. The Bearcats forced 28 turnovers with 38 points coming off those turnovers.
