Behind a strong performance by freshman
Jessica Guesman, the Bearcat women's bowling team swept Hilbert College by a score of 3-0 on the road in Hamburg, New York.
Guesman started the day with a couple of splits, but recovered quickly in game one to shoot 194. She followed with a collegiate high 259 in game two, as SVC captured both traditionals.
As a team, SVC won game one by a score of 848-651. Guesman's 194 led the way, while
Mercedes Belch finished with a 177.
Meghan Christman shot a 173 while
Morgan Barlock finished with three strikes in the 10th frame for a 161 game.
In game two, Guesman started with a spare then struck the next 7 frames en route to her 259 score. She was one of three Bearcats to break the 200 barrier in the game.
Abby Kyle (209) and
Dani Koehler (200) both threw "clean" games without an open frame. Saint Vincent won the game by a score of 963-696.
With SVC in front 2-0, the match switched to a best-of-7 Baker format for the final point. The Bearcats got off to a strong start, with Belch, Barlock,
Lexi Cobbin, Kyle and Koehler combining for a 201 game, winning by 94 pins. After SVC won game two, Guesman replaced Koehler at anchor for game three and SVC posted a 182-144 win.
Julie Reichert, Barlock, Cobbin, Kyle and Guesman then wrapped up the 4-0 sweep with a 136-113 win in the fourth game.
Saint Vincent is now 24-7 on the season, and will remain in the Buffalo area for their first-ever Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference round-robin tournament, which begins on Saturday (February 2) at 10AM.
