The Saint Vincent women's basketball team earned its first Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship and a trip to the NCAA National Tournament with a 70-48 victory over Washington & Jefferson in the Carey Center.

The Presidents got on the board 20 seconds into play, with Danielle Parker hitting a three, but the Bearcats answered with a 7-0 run, started by a three from
Jenna Lafko. Â
Madison Kollar and
Maria Morgan then added layups to make it 7-3. Â
Morgan's passing game was strong in the early going, as she assisted on scores in the paint by
Paige Montrose and Kollar, helping SVC to build a 15-9 lead with three minutes remaining in the first.

After a timeout, the Bearcats continued to roll, ending the quarter on a 9-1 run, with threes from Kilgus and Morgan, and a three-point play by Kollar giving the Bearcats a 24-10 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.

Saint Vincent then scored the first five points of the second quarter, with scores by
Carlee Kilgus and Montrose making it a 19-point game, 29-10 at the 6:59 mark.

The lead grew to 22 (34-12) on another three by Morgan at the 2:42 mark, and later a 2-on-1 break resulted in a Lafko pass to Slovenec for a couple of points that made the score 36-14.   At the half, the Bearcats were in front by a score of 38-17.

The Presidents closed the gap to 17 at the 4:30 mark of the third on a three by Tori Boalton that made the score 43-26, but Morgan and Kilgus followed with threes to run the lead to 23.

Bri Van Volkenburg score with just under a minute remaining in the quarter made the score 53-28, and SVC was in front 55-30 at the end of the third.

Early in the fourth, a layup by Lafko and a three from the top of the key by Kollar gave the Bearcats a 28-point advantage, 63-35.
Kollar and Kilgus led the Bearcat offense with 16 points each, while Morgan added 15.  Montrose scored 10 points and had a team-high 9 rebounds. Slovenec had 7 rebounds for the Bearcats.  W&J was led offensively by Tori Boalton's 9 points.
The Bearcats are now 23-4 on the season.

This will be Saint Vincent's third trip to the NCAA National Tournament, as the team received at-large bids in 2010 and 2011. Â The matchup for next weekend's first round will be announced on Monday. Â
