Twelve different players recorded points as the Bearcats got back on the winning track with an 88-60 win over visiting Waynesburg University in the Carey Center.
Saint Vincent is now 19-4 overall, 12-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Â With the loss, Waynesburg drops to 7-16, 6-8 in the PAC.
David Stephen led all scorers on the night with 17 points, but the real story of the game took place inside the paint, where SVC out-rebounded Waynesburg by a 47-19 margin. Â
Drew Normandin led SVC with six rebounds, but as with the scoring, SVC was balanced on the boards, with 13 different player recording at least one rebound. Â
The Bearcat got their offense rolling at the 15:50 mark of the first half, when
Shemar Bennett scored on a tip-in, then followed with a layup 30 seconds later to put SVC in front, 12-7.
Mike Simmons then hit a three, followed by layups from
Tom Kromka and
Cletus Helton, completing a 9-0 run that put the hosts in front, 19-7. Â After a score from the Jackets temporarily halted the run, Saint Vincent scored 7 more points, making the score 26-9. Â
The lead reached 20 points after another three by Simmons and a pair of Bennett free throws, 38-18. Â With under two minutes left in the first half, a tip-in by Normandin made it a 25-point game, 46-21, and the Bearcats ended the half with a 50-24 advantage.
Stephen set the tone early in the second half, scoring the first 6 points of the period on back-to-back three pointers. Â Near the 15-minute mark,
Kyle Pope hit a pair of threes to help run the lead to 32 (64-32).  Stephen added two more long-range threes  before the midpoint of the second half, making the score 74-36, as the Bearcats ultimately went on to a 28-point victory.
Behind Stephens on the scoresheet was Simmons with 13 points, while Kromka added 12 and Bennett had 10. Â Pope added 9 points on three shots from outside the arc. Â
Andrew Reed had 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Â
The Bearcats will be back in action on Wednesday (February 13) as the team travels to Beaver Falls to face Geneva College at 7:30PM.
