Bearcats cruise to 23-point victory


The Saint Vincent women's basketball team hosted Waynesburg University in a President's Athletic Conference matchup. After an early double-digit lead, the Bearcats coasted to an 80-57 victory.
 
Saint Vincent improves to 19-4, 13-1 in the PAC while the Yellow Jackets drop to 7-16, 5-9 in conference play.
 
 Kayla Slovenec scored the first five points game. Waynesburg battle back and took the lead 10-9 with 6:15 left in the first quarter. This was the last time the Yellow Jackets saw anytime with the advantage.
 
The Bearcats rattled off 10-straight points capped off by a Maria Morgan layup on the fastbreak. At the end of the first, Saint Vincent lead by the score of 24-13.
 
In the second, the Bearcats started the same as in the first by scoring the first points thanks to Taylor Boring. Waynesburg tried to get back into the game but only got as close as seven points. With 1:07 remaining in the first half, Saint Vincent capped a 9-0 run courtesy of a three-point shot from Morgan.
 
As both teams departed from the court for the locker room, the Bearcats held the 13-point difference, 41-28.
 
In the third quarter, the pattern remained the same as the first half. Waynesburg tried to cut into the deficit but only managed to bring the game within seven. Saint Vincent then increased the lead to double digits and was up 60-47 going to the final quarter.
 
In the final quarter, the Bearcats slowly increased its lead and found its way to the 23-point victory.
 
Madison Kollar recorded her first double-double of the season dropping 24 points and gathering 10 rebounds. Morgan and Boring both finished in double digits with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Carlee Kilgus scored eight points and a game-high 11 points.
 
Saint Vincent travels to Beaver Falls, Pa. to face Geneva College on Wednesday (February 13). Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
