Bearcats sweep Hilbert at LECOM Park

BRADENTON, Fla. (Mar. 4) – In a doubleheader that took place at LECOM Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training, the Saint Vincent baseball team's offense showed up early and often. Sweeping Hilbert College by winning 12-1 and 11-4.

In the second inning, Ramon Milke started the scoring as hit a single through the left side of the infield, plating both Matt Morrone and Bobby Finn. In the following inning, the Bearcats continued the scoring first with Stone Holtzman crossing home on a Finn single to left.
 
Morrone followed it up with a sacrifice fly to center field as Nick LaCava tagged up and scored. Finn then scored on a single by Milke giving him three runs batted in so far. Shane Fajt tripled off the right center wall, plating both Milke and Parker Janosko. Saint Vincent led 7-0 after the third.
 
In the fourth, the Bearcats continued their offense dominance as Holtzman scored on Morrone's single down the right field line. Milke then collected his fourth RBI of the game when he singled to left field, allowing Finn to score.
 
Janosko kept the offense going with a sacrifice fly to right that plated Morrone from third. TJ Dailey capped the inning off as he scored on a wild pitch. Saint Vincent led 11-0 going to the fifth.
 
Hilbert scored in the top of the fifth to make it 11-1. The Bearcats regained its 11-run lead as Tanner Yard scored when LaCava grounded out to third. Saint Vincent shut down Hilbert the last two innings and won 12-1.
 
Jimmy Malone picked up his first win of the season as he went 6 and a third innings. Malone gave up the lone run on five hits while striking out seven Hawks.
 
Milke led the offense going a perfect four-for-four, driving in four runs and scoring once. Finn collected three hits in four at-bats, a RBI and scoring three times.
 
Game 2 Recap – Saint Vincent 11, Hilbert 4
 
In the second half of the doubleheader, Saint Vincent picked up where it left off. Zach Barberich singled up the middle, opening the way for Holtzman to score. Hunter Mills scored as Morrone exposed a hole in the defensive shift. Milke followed the two singles with a triple off the right center wall, plating both Barberich and Morrone.
 
After leading 4-0 going into the second, Finn added another run as he hit a sacrifice fly that scored Holtzman. Despite Hilbert scoring three in the bottom of the second, Saint Vincent still led 5-3.
 
In the fourth inning, both Mills and Holtzman scored when Barberich singled to right field and then advanced to second as the right fielder misplayed the ball. Barberich then scored on a Finn single to left.
 
In the fifth, Mike Hildebrand scored on a Holtzman sacrifice fly. Barberich hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Rudzinski. Saint Vincent held a 10-3 lead going into the sixth.
 
Hilbert added a run in the sixth but the Bearcats added a run in the seventh thanks to a Finn single that brought Holtzman. The last run gave Saint Vincent its final score of 11-4.
 
Barberich went three-for-five from the plate in his first collegiate start. Barberich drove in four runs while scoring twice.
 
Ben Davis started on the mound for Saint Vincent and picked up the win. Davis went a little over three innings, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks.
 
Saint Vincent (3-0) has Tuesday off before facing Emerson College on Wednesday, March 6 in Kissimmee, Fla. First pitch is 9:30 a.m.
