In a game with an unexpected, undefeated opponent, the Bearcats lost to St. Joseph's College by a score of 12-5 in a game played in Auburndale, Florida.

St. Joseph's, from Maine, was a late replacement for the originally scheduled opponent, which was unable to field a team on Thursday (March 7) due to injuries.

The Monks got off to a quick start, scoring three runs on four hits off SVC starter Brenden Lavely (0-1).  They added an unearned run in the top of the second to make it a 4-0 lead.

Saint Vincent cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second, thanks to a 2-run double by Mike Hildebrand.  An inning later, Stone Holtzman singled home Tanner Yard, who had singled and moved to second on an error, to make it a one-run game, 4-3.

However, the Monks (5-0) added one run in each of the next five innings, while SVC scored just two more runs, in the bottom of the 6th.  Two walks, a passed ball and two errors worked in SVC's favor, allowing the team to close the gap at the time to just two, 7-5, but it was as close as the team would get.

The Bearcats had 8 hits on the day, led by two each from Yard and Matt Morrone.  Lavely took the loss, working six innings and giving up 5 earned runs.

SVC will return to action on Friday (March 8) facing Trine University at 1:15PM in Auburndale.
