Bearcats bounce back against Trine

After losing its first game of the season yesterday, Saint Vincent baseball team rebounded against Trine University winning 11-5 in Auburndale, Florida.
 
The Bearcats opened the game in the second inning as Ramon Milke scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, as Hunter Mills reached on an error by the third baseman that allowed Shane Fajt to score.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, Trine answered with a run of its own. Saint Vincent held the 2-1 advantage going to the third. 
 
In the third, Mike Hildebrand broke for and stole second. As the catcher threw for second, Matt Morrone left third and stole home, giving the Bearcats a two-run advantage, 3-1.
 
In the bottom of the third, the Thunder cut the lead back down to one. After holding Saint Vincent scoreless in the fifth, Trine scored two runs to gain its first lead of the day, 4-3.
 
In the sixth, the Bearcats tied the game as Joe Rudzinski hit a double to right field that scored Hildebrand. Rudzinski, who reached third on a groundout, scored on a wild pitch to give Saint Vincent the lead again, 5-4.
 
The Bearcats increased its lead to two as Bobby Finn doubled to left field, plating Hunter Mills in the seventh. In the next inning, Zach Barberich reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Stone Holtzman to score. 
 
In the next at-bat, with runners on the corners, Finn gave Saint Vincent its first home run of the year as he kept one just inside the left foul pole. After the three-run blast, the Bearcats led 10-4. 
 
In the ninth, Saint Vincent added another run off a Mills sacrifice fly. Trine scored once in the bottom of the ninth but fell by the final of 11-5.
 
Finn led the offense by going two-for-five with a home run and four runs batted in. Rudzinski went one-for-two with a run driven in and scoring twice.
 
Casey Jones started on the bump for Saint Vincent, going six innings while allowing nine hits, four runs (one earned), and three walks. Jones, who struck out five, picked up his second win of the year. Matt Evans replaced Jones in the seventh and closed out the final three innings with four hits and one run. Evans earned his second save of the season.
 
Saint Vincent (5-1) wraps up its Florida trip tomorrow against Albion College at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida. First pitch is at 9 a.m.
