The Saint Vincent softball team traveled north to face the Thiel Tomcats in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup. After dropping game one, the Bearcats rebound with a game two victory.

Game 1 Recap – Thiel 6, Saint Vincent 1

In game one, it was the hosts that got on the board first. Thiel scored three runs in the opening inning off two singles that found their way into left center. The Tomcats scored another run in the second inning and chased starting pitcher
Celia Knappenberger from the game.

Thiel added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and held a 6-0 lead going to the final two innings.

Saint Vincent ended the shutout as
Riley Assalone doubled to center field that scored
Alona Sleith from first. However, the Bearcats did not score again and fell by the five-run margin.

Sleith led the offense with three hits and scoring the lone run. Knappenberger picked up the loss (10-5) in two innings of work, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk.

Game 2 Recap – Saint Vincent 10, Thiel 1 (5 Inn.)

Just like in game one, Thiel scored the first run in the opening frame but this was the last time the host would touch home plate.

In the second,
Kaylee Ludwick drew a walk with the bases loaded that scored Assalone.
Sydney Gurneal followed it with a single to center that scored
Johnna Karas and gave the Bearcats the 2-1 lead.

In the fourth, Gurneal collected her second run batted in as she doubled to center to score
Kelly Flaherty.
Lauren Miller came up later in the inning with the bases loaded and singled through the left side to plate Gurneal.

Sleith followed with a RBI single of her own that allowed
Shae Robson to score and extend the lead to 5-1. Assalone capped off the inning with a single through the left side of her own that scored both
Kelsey Tobin and Miller. SVC held the six-run lead.

In the next inning, Gurneal scored from third on a wild pitch. Sleith hit a sacrifice fly to left as Robson tagged from third. Tobin scored the final run of the game as Assalone reached on a fielder's choice. Knappenberger pitched game two as well and held the Tomcats in check as Saint Vincent won 10-1 in five innings.

Assalone led the team going two-for-four with three runs driven in and scoring once. Gurneal added two hits with two runs and runs batted in. With Flaherty's hit in game two, she as now totaled 100 hits for her career.

Knappenberger improved to 11-5 as she went all five innings, giving up the lone run on seven hits and no walks.

Saint Vincent is now 21-11, 9-1 in the conference as it travels to Washington and Jefferson College on Thursday, April 18. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
