The Saint Vincent baseball team played a solid game on both offense and defense, earning a 9-1 win at home over Westminster College.
Â
The defense turned a pair of double plays in the first three innings, helping starting pitcher
Jimmy Malone keep the Titans off the board.
Â
In the fourth,
Hunter Mills drew a leadoff walk, then moved to second on a single by
Bobby Finn.Â
Jimmy Wheeler then laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing both runners. Â
Zach Barberich then drove home the game's first run with a single. Â
Nick LaCava added a single that scored Finn to make it 2-0, then
TJ Dailey laced a single right back up the middle. Barberich beat the throw to the plate to make the score 3-0, and both LaCava and Dailey ended up taking an extra base on the throw home.
Â
Tanner Yard cleared the bases with a double, giving the Bearcats a 5-0 advantage, and
Stone Holtzman followed with an infield single.  The ball was then misplayed, allowing Yard to score the Bearcats' sixth run of the inning.
Â
The Bearcats added a run in the sixth on a pair of walks and three wild pitches.  With Barberich at second, the fourth wild pitch of the inning moved him to third, and he scored on an infield single by Dailey to give SVC an 8-0 lead.
Â
In the seventh, Wheeler led off with a double to center, and Barberich followed with a single that moved Wheeler to third.  Pinch hitter
Brady Duricko followed with an RBI single to right center.
Â
The Titans lone run of the game was an unearned run in the top of the ninth.
Â
Malone (6-1) earned the win, working six scoreless innings, giving up just three hits, walking none and striking out three. Â
Matt Evans and
Jarrett Noel each worked a scoreless inning in relief.
Â
With the win, the Bearcats improve to 10-8 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, 18-14 overall. Westminster is now 6-12 in the PAC, 11-19 overall.
Â
The Bearcats will return to action on Friday (April 26), facing Waynesburg University on the road.
