GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org )-- Saint Vincent College and 13th-year head coach
Nicole Karr secured the number one seed and hosting rights for this week's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Championship Tournament.
Saint Vincent finished its regular season 25-13 overall while going 13-3 in the PAC.
The four-team, double-elimination tournament will take place Thursday-Friday, May 2-3 at the SVC Softball Field in Latrobe, Pa. The Bearcats will be playing for their second PAC title (2016).
Saint Vincent last hosted the league's championship tournament in 2012.
Thiel College (17-23) and first-year head coach
Stephanie Fort enter the tournament as the number two seed after posting a 10-6 PAC regular season record. The Tomcats last appeared in the championship tournament in 2017. Thiel played in the title game in 2012 and is seeking its first PAC championship.
Westminster College (18-16), led by 23rd-year head coach
Jan Reddinger, enter the championship tournament as the number three seed after finishing its PAC ledger with a 9-7 record. The Titans have appeared in the tournament in four-straight seasons and won its lone PAC title in 2005.
Geneva College (19-17) and 17th-year head coach
Van Zanic claimed the number four seed after posting a 9-7 PAC regular season record. The Golden Tornadoes last appeared in the championship tournament from 2012-14, winning its lone PAC title in 2012.
No. 2 Thiel and No. 3 Westminster will get things going Thursday at 10 a.m. Top-seeded Saint Vincent and No. 4 Geneva will match up in the second opening-round game at 12 p.m.
The losers of Thursday's opening-round matchups will meet in elimination Game C at 2 p.m., followed by the winners of the two opening-round games (Game D) facing off at 4 p.m.
On Friday, the winner of Game C will meet the loser of Game D in an 11 a.m. elimination game for the right to play for the conference title against the Game D winner at 1 p.m. If both teams have one loss at that point, the "if necessary" game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The PAC Championship Tournament winner will secure the league's automatic qualifying bid (Pool A) to the NCAA Division III Championship, with regional play scheduled to begin Thursday-Sunday, May 9-11. Team and site selections for the Division III Softball Championship will be announced at 1 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, May 6 and streamed on
ncaa.com.
