The Saint Vincent women's tennis team opened the season with a non-conference win over visiting Mount Aloysius by a score of 7-2.
The Bearcats started doubles play with an 8-1 win at third doubles by
Livia Wentworth and
Lauren Hartner. At second doubles
Kate Palko and
Abby Jo Stull teamed up for an 8-3 win to put SVC up by two. The Mounties drew back to within one with a win at first doubles.
Saint Vincent extended the lead to 3-1 with a walkover win at sixth singles before Wentworth claimed the fifth singles point, 6-1, 6-0. After getting her first collegiate win in doubles, Stull followed with a straight set win in the four hole to clinch the match.
Maura Skelley won a thrilling three set match at first singles, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8. Palko also won a straight sets match at third singles.Â
The Bearcats now have a two week break before returning to action in their Presidents' Athletic Conference opener against Geneva. The match is set for Friday, September 13 at 6:30pm at Blackhawk High School.Â
