The Saint Vincent women's tennis team lost its Presidents' Athletic Conference opener on the road in Beaver Falls, falling to Geneva College by a score of 6-3.
Geneva took an early 3-0 lead, capturing all three doubles matches.
In singles play,
Jessica Hartner picked up the Bearcats' first point of the day, winning 6-3, 6-3 in the #6 singles match.
The other Bearcat wins came in lengthy matches that went to tie-breakers. In the #1 singles match,
Maura Skelley won an extended first set, 7-5. After falling 6-1 in the second set, she bounced back for a 10-5 win in the tiebreaker.
The #2 singles match was won by SVC's
Angela Popovich. The freshman dropped the first set, 6-4, before winning the second set by a 6-4 margin. She carried that momentum into the tiebreaker, winning 10-3 for her first collegiate victory. Â
Saint Vincent is now 1-1 on the season, 0-1 in the PAC. The team will be back in action on Tuesday (September 17), traveling to West Virginia to face Bethany College at 5PM.
