The Saint Vincent women's tennis team edged out NCAA Division II California University of Pennsylvania by a score of 5-4.
Maria Hoh and
Jessica Hartner got the ball rolling with an 8-0 sweep at third doubles. The Vulcans drew even with an 8-5 win at first doubles.
Lauren Hartner and
Abby Jo Stull secured the final doubles point for the Bearcats by a score of 8-3.
Stull rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win in the three hole to start singles play, followed by Hannah Schillp claiming the sixth singles point, 6-3, 6-0. The victory was the first of Schilpp's collegiate career. Hoh finished off the Vulcans with a straight sets win of her own at fifth singles, 6-4, 6-1.
With the victory Saint Vincent pushes its record to 4-1 on the year. The Bearcats will resume play on Saturday, September 28 with a non-conference match at Penn State Altoona. The match is slated to start at 1:00 pm.
