The Saint Vincent College women's tennis team hosted Washington & Jefferson College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup. The Bearcats fell to the Presidents, 8-1.
W&J captured an early 3-0 lead as it won all three double matches.
In singles play, the Presidents won in straight sets in first, third and fourth single matches. At fifth singles, senior
Livia Wentworth faced Caitlin Shellhamer. Shellhamer won the first set 6-3 but Wentworth responded as she won the second set, 6-3. Shellhamer ultimately won the match as she won the third, 10-5.Â
In sixth singles, junior
Maria Hoh battled Vanesa Hyde. Hoh forced a tiebreaker in the first set but fell, 7-6 (7-4). The second set went to a tiebreaker as well but Hoh got the edge this time as she won 7-6 (7-5). Hyde won the third set, 10-5, along with the match.Â
Saint Vincent's lone win came in second singles as freshman
Angela Popovich won in straight sets, 6-4 and 7-5, over Isabella Goldman.Â
Saint Vincent is now 5-2 with a conference record of 1-2 as it will host Thiel College on Tuesday, October 1. Start time is 4 p.m.
