The Saint Vincent women's tennis team opened its spring season with a win over Juniata by a score of 5-4.
The Golden Eagles got on the board first with an 8-1 win at second doubles. Livia Wentworth and Lauren Hartner answered back with an 8-0 win in the three hole to tie the match at 1-1. Maura Skelley and Angela Popovich gave the Bearcats the edge after doubles play with an 8-3 win at first doubles.Â
Juniata tied the match again with a win at third singles, but Hartner rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles to edge Saint Vincent closer to the win. Skelley gave SVC a 4-2 advantage with a straight sets win at first singles, 6-2, 6-4. Popovich clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles.Â
With the win Saint Vincent's record now sits at 9-5 on the year. The Bearcats will return to action on Wednesday, March 4 when they play a Spring break double header at the USTA National Campus.
