The Saint Vincent baseball team came back from a 6-run deficit to win the season opener, 10-9, over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in a game held in Auburndale, Florida.

A five-run 6th inning brought SVC back into the game,
Ben Menarchek drove home the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the 7th.

Mark Locke earned the victory in relief, and
Casey Jones came on to get the final out for save.

The Bearcats got on the board early, as
Jordan Sabol reached on an error to lead off the first. He promptly stole second, then moved to third on a groundout by
Tanner Yard.Â
Zach Barberich then singled home the first run of the season. That was followed by singles from Jordan Wright and
TJ Dailey, loading the bases. A strikeout led to the second run of the inning, as Barberich scored on a passed ball, putting SVC in front 2-0 after an inning.

Lyndon answered back in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs, with the big hit coming from Caleb LaRoche, who doubled with the bases loaded, scoring all three runners, and chasing SVC starter
Jimmy Malone.

Three Bearcat errors led to three runs in the fifth inning, giving Lyndon an 8-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Sabol doubled down the left field line, moved to third on an infield single by Yard, then scored on a groundout by Barberich, making the score 8-3.

Down 9-3 in the bottom of the sixth,
TJ Dailey led off by reaching on an error, then
Hunter Mills drew a walk.Â
Johnny Daggs was hit by a pitch, and Menarchek drove home Dailey on a groundout.Â
Zack VonStein followed with another RBI groundout, making it a 9-5 game. Sabol then closed the gap to three runs with his second double of the game, scoring Daggs.Â

Yard followed with a triple to the gap in right center, driving home Sabol, and an infield single by Barberich cut the gap to just one, 9-8.

After
Mark Locke threw a scoreless top of the 7
th, Dailey led off the bottom of the inning with a triple to right center. Mills followed with a double down the line, tying the game at 9-9. Daggs attempted to sacrifice the runner to third, and placed a perfect bunt out in front of the plate that turned into a single, putting runners at the corners.Â

After Daggs stole second, Menarchek then put the Bearcats in front with a single to right that plated Mills, but Daggs was thrown out at the plate, leaving the score at 10-9.

Matt Evans came on in the 8th and pitched a 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts. In the 9th, a walk and an infield single put runners at the corners with two outs, and Jones came on in relief to get the final out, securing the win.

Yard had three hits on the afternoon, while Sabol, Barberich and Dailey each had two. Barberich drove in three runs.

Saint Vincent will be back in action on Monday (March 2) at 1:15, facing Aurora University at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Florida.
