The Saint Vincent women's bowling team posted a 7-2 record for the weekend and earned the #2 seed in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament.
SVC had a one-game lead over defending conference champion Medaille College going into the final match of the two-day round robin tournament, but Medaille was victorious and captured the #1 seed.
Earlier in the day, the Bearcats opened with a convincing 857-597 win over La Roche University.Â
Mercedes Belch led the way with a 181, while
Meghan Christman finished with a 180 and
Morgan Barlock had a 174.
Next, SVC faced Pitt-Bradford and pulled away late for a 123-pin victory, 883-760.Â
Olivia Emmonds had the high with a 215, while Christman shot a 186 game.
The third match of the day was against first-year team D'Youville College, which had upset Medaille earlier in the day. The Bearcats got off to a slow start with three opens in the first frame, and trailed much of the way. The Bearcats took their first lead late in the 9th frame, and held on in the 10th for a 36-pin win, 866-830. Christman had the top score with a 193, while
Dani Koehler finished with a 185, and
Rachael Heater had a 171.
SVC then entered the final match with a season conference record of 17-1, while Medaille entered at 16-2. Medaille jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as the Bearcats were plagued by 10 splits in the game and several missed spares, as the Mavericks were victorious by a score of 941-772.
Both teams finished with a conference record of 16-2, but Medaille had the advantage in the total-pins tiebreaker.
DAY ONE RECAP
In the opener, Saint Vincent got off to a slow start, shooting a team score of 771, defeating Hilbert College by 160. Â
Meghan Christman led the team with a 177, while
Dani Koehler shot a 175 game.
Up next was a matchup against Penn State-Behrend, and the Bearcats trailed throughout much of the game. Â However, the team fought back in the closing frames to record a 768-720 victory. Â Christman once again had the top score, shooting 214, while Koehler had a 166.
The Bearcats then took on host Mount Aloysius College. Â SVC got off to a strong start and took an early lead, eventually holding a 30-pin lead after 8 frames. Â The Mounties cut the margin to just 10 in the 9th frame, then had a strong 10th to defeat Saint Vincent by a score of 948-936. Â Koehler finished with a 207, while
Jessica Guesman had a 192. Â
Olivia Emmonds (181), Christman (179) and
Morgan Barlock (177) all threw well, but SVC lost its first conference game of the season.
The Bearcats were then winners in their final two games of the day, defeating New Jersey City University (769-672) and Penn State-Altoona (795-651). Â Against NJCU, Emmonds had the top score (167), while Guesman finished with a 166. Â In the Altoona game, Christman shot a 178, while Guesman finished with a 169.
Saint Vincent is now 50-7 overall on the season and will enter the AMCC Championships with a first-round bye. They will face the winner of #3 Mount Aloysius and #6 Pitt-Bradford on Friday, March 21 at Sims Lanes in Beaver Falls. Â
