The Saint Vincent College women's volleyball team traveled to Greenville, Pennsylvania to face Thiel College. The Tomcats defeated the Bearcats in straight sets, 3-0.
In the opening set against Thiel, Saint Vincent scored first. The Tomcats got on the board scoring the next three points. The next few points went back and forth as Saint Vincent trailed by one, 7-6. However, Thiel scored seven of the next eight points to hold a 13-8 lead over the Bearcats.
Saint Vincent scored the next three points before losing three more to the Tomcats. Trailing 14-11, the Bearcats went on a short run but weren't a match for Thiel. Two kills from Becca Miller started to give Saint Vincent the edge but Thiel recaptured the lead as it scored the next two points.
SVC answered with two points of its own as the two teams traded points until the Bearcats narrowed in on a four-point lead, 22-18. Saint Vincent closed the gap to one point before Thiel claimed the first set.
The second set started with the Tomcats taking an early lead before the Bearcats answered back, trailing 7-5. Saint Vincent struggled to capture the lead as Thiel scored eight of the next nine points, leading 14-7.
SVC slimmed down the lead on a 5-2 run, trailing the Tomcats 16-12. Thiel scored two quick points on a service error and an attack error. A kill by Madison Reeping looked promising for SVC to take the lead (17-13) but the Tomcats dominated the rest of the match, claiming the set.
The third set was Saint Vincent from the start as the team led Thiel 7-3. The Tomcats tied the game at eight a piece with a kill by Madi Yurich. Thiel was back in the set and gained the lead jumping 19-12 over the Bearcats. Thiel won the third and final set of the match to secure the victory.
Miller led the Bearcats attack with 11 kills and Caitlyn Figuly added six. Luciana Polk tallied 16 digs and Madi Marsico notched 13 digs.
Saint Vincent opens the home campaign against Geneva College on Tuesday, March 2. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
