Women's Volleyball opens home season

 

The Saint Vincent College women's volleyball team opened up the home campaign against Geneva College. The Golden Tornadoes defeated the Bearcats in straight sets, 3-0.  

In the opening set against Geneva, Saint Vincent scored first. The Golden Tornadoes (3-0, 2-0) got on the board scoring the next point on a service error. The next few points went back and forth as Saint Vincent (0-2, 0-2) led by three, 6-3. The set continued to go back and forth in the next few plays, as the Bearcats lead 16-11.
  
Geneva scored the next three points before losing one to the Bearcats. Trailing 17-14, the Golden Tornadoes went on a 6-0 run. A kill from Caitlyn Figuly started to give Saint Vincent momentum but Geneva held onto the lead as it scored the next four points.  
  
SVC answered with a point of its own on a service error. The Bearcats were trailing by five points, 24-19, but a service error by Saint Vincent gave the set to Geneva.

The second set started with the Bearcats taking an early lead before Geneva answered back, tying the contest 5-5. Saint Vincent struggled to capture the lead as Geneva scored six of the next nine points, leading 11-8.  
  
Geneva increased its lead on a 5-1 run. Saint Vincent trailed 16-11 as Becca Miller notched a kill for the Bearcats. The Golden Tornadoes scored seven quick points as the Bearcats trailed 23-11. A kill by Luciana Polk looked promising for SVC to regain their momentum but Geneva capitalized on the rest of the match, claiming the set 25-13. 
  
The third set was back and forth from the start as Geneva and Saint Vincent were tied at eight a piece. The Golden Tornadoes went on a 4-0 run, leading the Bearcats 12-8. Saint Vincent gained three quick points inching its way back into the set, 13-11. Geneva won the third set of the match to secure the victory.  

Madison Reeping led the Bearcats attack with eight kills and Figuly added five. Madi Marsico tallied 19 digs and Polk notched 15.

Saint Vincent travels to Washington, Pennsylvania to face Washington and Jefferson Saturday, March 6. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
