The Saint Vincent College baseball team completed its four-game regular season series against Chatham University on the road. Bearcats won both games by scores of 15-3 and 5-2, respectively.
Game 1 - Saint Vincent 15, Chatham 3
After a scoreless opening frame for both teams, Saint Vincent got on the board first as
Jimmy Malone doubled to right center to bring home
Justin Wright and
Jeremy Kruezweiser. Leading 2-0, the Bearcats add to their lead in the third as
Jayke Saiani hit a sacrifice fly to right allowing
Jordan Sabol to tag-up from third. Later in the inning, Wright drove a ball the left field as
Tim Beimel and
Johnny Daggs crossed home plate. SVC held a five-run advantage going to the bottom half of the third.
Chatham got on the board in its half of the third but Saint Vincent wasted no time in responding. Saiani drove in two more runs with a single into right, giving way for Daggs and Sabol. In the fifth, the Bearcats scored four runs on four hits to grasp a 10-run lead (11-1).
The Cougars added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth but the deficit was too great. SVC went on to add four more runs in the eighth off five hits to make the game 15-3 and eventually won by that score.
Julian Santana, Sabol and Daggs finished the game with three hits and a run driven in. Sabol and Daggs each scored three times while Saiani drove in four runs. Beimel and
Joe Rudzinski also added three hits while SVC finished with 20 total with five being of the extra base variety.Â
Tom Bash started on the mound going five and a third innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and striking out nine in the win.
Zach Barberich threw three and two-third innings of shutout ball to secure the save.
Game 2 -Â Saint Vincent 5, Chatham 2
The Bearcats got on the board in the opening inning as Sabol scored on a passed ball. The score remained 1-0 until the third when Zach VonStein hit a single to right center as
Jimmy Wheeler scored from second. Chatham cut the deficit in half with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third.
The Cougars, in time, tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI single. The tied score was short lived when
Matt Evans drove a ball to left center, driving in VonStein. Santana scored during the next at-bat off a passed ball.
Brady Duricko capped off the scoring with a single that brought home Sabol.
With one out in the sixth, Evans moved from second to the mound to replace
Brenden Lavely. Evans faced the minimum five batters, allowing one hit to preserve the 5-2 victory.
Sabol went 2-2 from the plate, scoring twice and drawing a walk. Evans and VonStein finished with two hits with a run batted in for both of them.
Lavely pitched five and a third innings, allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out four. Evans earned the save going an inning and two-thirds.
 Saint Vincent (3-1, 2-1) welcomes the Bison of Bethany College on Saturday, March 20 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference twin bill. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
