Saint Vincent splits doubleheader with Bethany

 
The Saint Vincent baseball team welcomed the Bethany Bison for a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader. After dropping the first game, 7-6, the Bearcats walked it off in game two, winning 12-11 in 10 innings.

Game 1 - Bethany 7, Saint Vincent 6

After a scoreless first three innings for both teams, Saint Vincent got on the board as Zach Barberich singled to left field to bring home Jordan Sabol. Leading 1-0, the Bearcats added to their lead in the third as TJ Dailey tripled, allowing Jake Saiani and Johnny Daggs to score. SVC held a three-run advantage going to the top of the fourth.

The next two innings remained scoreless. Bethany added their first run of the game in the sixth on a triple from Luke Beatty. SVC raked up three runs in the bottom of the inning when Tim Beimel reached on base on an error. The Bearcats led 6-1 heading into the seventh inning.

The Bison added six runs in the top of the seventh, which secured their victory 7-6 over SVC.

Sabol and Saiani finished the game with two hits. Sabol scored twice while Daggs, Saiani, Beimel and Justin Wright drove in one run apiece. SVC finished with 11 total hits.

Casey Jones started on the mound going four innings, allowing no runs on six hits and striking out four. Jimmy Malone picked up the loss in relief.

Game 2 - Saint Vincent 12, Bethany 11 (10 Inn.)

Just like game one, Saint Vincent opened the scoring as Tom Bash singled through the right side as Sabol scored. Bethany tied the game in top of the second with a single and an error by SVC.

At this point, the Bison took control as they scored five in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the seventh to hold a 9-1 lead.

The Bearcats added a run in the bottom of the seventh as Matt Evans drove in Saiani with a single through the left side. Trailing seven (9-2), SVC used a seven-run eighth led by a two-RBI double from Steven Manon and Julian Santana to even the score at nine.

Bethany responded in the top of the ninth with two runs and looked for the sweep on the day. However, Ben Menarchek had different plays as he line a sinlge through the middle of the infield. Dimitri Gary and Tyler Becker scored to send the game to extra innings. 

Evans shut down the Bison in order to start the tenth. In the bottom half of the inning, SVC strung together two singles and a walk to load the bases with no outs. Becker stepped to the plate a drove in Sabol to walk-off the game.

Six Bearcats totaled two hits in the game with Menarchek, Manon and Santana driving in two runs. 

Evans picked up the win in relief, going two innings and allowing one run (unearned) on one hit.

Saint Vincent (4-2, 3-2) completes the four-game series with Bethany on Sunday, March 21 in West Virginia. First pitch is 1 p.m.
