SVC and Bethany split series


The Saint Vincent baseball team traveled to West Virginia to face Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader. After winning the first game, 14-4, the Bearcats fell in the second game in the last inning, 9-8.

Game 1 – Saint Vincent 14, Bethany 4

Saint Vincent led off the first inning adding three runs. Jordan Sabol singled to shortstop, which gave the Bearcats the momentum from the start. SVC held a three-run advantage going to the top of the third.

In the third, TJ Dailey homered, scoring the only running of the inning for the Bearcats.
 
It was not until the top of the fifth inning where Saint Vincent added another three runs when Matt Evans singled to left field to start. Dailey doubled and advanced a runner to home. The Bearcats held the 7-0 edge over the Bison.
 
SVC held Bethany scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Bethany added two runs, diminishing their lead to five.
 
SVC raked up four runs in the top of the seventh when Julian Santana and Evans both singled on back-to-back up to bats. The Bearcats led 11-2 heading into the eighth inning.

The Bison added one run in the eighth, trailing by eight to Saint Vincent.
 
The Bearcats added four runs in the ninth while Bethany tallied one, giving them the 14-4 victory.

Evans finished the game with five hits, while Jimmy Malone tallied four. Dailey scored four times while Evans drove in three runs. SVC finished with 21 total hits.

Tom Bash started on the mound going six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out seven batters.  

Game 2 – Bethany 9, Saint Vincent 8

Just like game one, Saint Vincent opened the scoring as Nate Roebuck singled through the left side as Santana scored. The Bearcats added two runs in the first.
 
Santana singled to left field to allow Zack VonStein to score for SVC. The Bearcats led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the second.
 
In the top of the third inning, Saint Vincent added two runs.
 
Both teams remained scoreless through the bottom of the fourth. Bethany was scoreless through four innings.

At this point, Saint Vincent took control as they scored three in the fifth to hold a 8-0 lead.

Bethany responded in the top of the fifth with five runs and looked for the split on the day. Saint Vincent was scoreless through the sixth inning.
 
At the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bison added two runs to split the day with the Bearcats, 9-8.

Seven Bearcats totaled one hit in the game with VonStein driving in two runs. 

Justin Wright picked up the loss, going one inning and allowing two runs on four hits.

Saint Vincent (5-3, 4-2) faces Grove City on the road in a doubleheader PAC contest on Friday, March 26. First pitch is 1 p.m.
