The Saint Vincent College women's volleyball team matched up against the Bethany Bison in the Robert S. Carey Center. The Bearcats lost the match in four sets, 3-1.

In the opening set the Bison scored the first point and three out of the first four to take an early 3-1 advantage. The Bison stayed in the lead for much of the first set as both teams traded points back and forth, in the tightly contested set.

After a kill by
Madison Reeping the set was tied 18-18. Bethany went on a 3-0 run and then the Bearcats answered with a 3-0 run of their own, as the game was tied at 21. The Bison outscored the Bearcats 4-2 to end the set and win 25-23.

In the second set, just as they did in the first set, Bethany scored first. This time the Bearcats quickly responded scoring three of the next four points with kills from
Luciana Polk and
Becca Miller, followed by a
Carly Augustine service ace (3-2).

The lead went back and forth as neither team took control, which kept the set tight through the teens. Bethany scored three straight points giving them a 23-19 advantage. The Bearcats responded, going on a 4-0 run, tying the set up 23-23. Bethany scored the next two points to win the set 25-23 and lead the match overall 2-0.

In the third set, Bethany started out with a quick 2-0 advantage. Saint Vincent quickly responded with two points of its own including a kill from Miller. Both teams traded the next few points, giving the Bearcats a slight 5-4 edge in the set.

From this point on, the Bearcats had control of the third set, firing off five straight points, and scoring eight of the next nine points, giving them a 13-5 lead. The Bearcats were firing on all cylinders in the set and Bethany could not recover, as the Bearcats would win the set 25-15.

In the fourth set, the Bearcats scored first on a kill from Augustine (1-0). The Bearcats and Bison traded the next several points, with the Bearcats still leading 11-10 in the set. Bethany went on a 7-0 run to give them a 17-11 advantage.

The Bearcats fought and cut the lead to just two at 22-20 after an attack error by Bethany. Bethany scored three out of the last four points giving them the set by a score of 25-21, and the match 3-1.

Augustine led the Bearcats with 11 kills. Miller and Polk both added 9 kills in the loss for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats will stay home and host Chatham University on Sunday, March 28. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
