The Bearcats split the doubleheader against Franciscan in a Presidents' Athletic Conference, dropping a 4-3 decision in the opener before riding a stellar 10 runs in three innings to claim the 16-14 victory in game two.

Game 1 - Franciscan 4, Saint Vincent 3
Franciscan opened the scoring in the opener with two runs on five hits in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.

Neither Franciscan or Saint Vincent tallied a run until the bottom of the fourth when the Barons added three hits, taking the 3-0 edge over the Bearcats.

The Bearcats cut into the deficit in the visiting half of the sixth.
Julian Santana led off the inning with a single to left field before
Matt Evans followed with a single also to left field, putting runners at first and second. A single from
TJ Dailey moved Evans up a base and Santana to score. Stephan Manon was hit by the pitch to load the bases. SVC cut into the deficit, now trailing by two heading to the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the top of the seventh,
Jimmy Malone led off with a walk and
Alex Legge was put in to run the bases.
Jordan Sabol then singled to center field, sending Legge to second. Legge stole third after Santana struck out. Sabol then stole second. Evans drove a single to center field, advancing to second base then to third on an error. Both Sabol and Legge would cross the plate to make it a 3-3 game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Franciscan would tally one hit and one run, taking advantage of a hit by pitch to earn the victory 4-3.
Saint Vincent totaled just six hits in the opener, with two by Evans and Sabol.
Justin Wright grabbed the loss, going 2.1 innings and allowing one run with two strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2 - Saint Vincent 16, Franciscan 14
In the second half of the twin bill, SVC got off to a strong start, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Sabol and Santana both walked to open the frame before Evans homered, bringing in both runs for the Bearcats.
Franciscan tied the game at two apiece with two singles in the bottom of the first inning.
The Barons added five runs in the bottom of the second after the Bearcats went scoreless. The Bearcats looked to regain the lead in the top half of the third following a single to left by Daggs, scoring Dailey and advancing Zack Barberich to second base. A few batters later,
Joe Rudzinski walked, adding another run. Sabol singled to left field, allowing two runners to cross the plate. SVC now trailed by one (7-6).

Franciscan tallied two more runs on three hits in the bottom of the third to extend its lead to 9-6.

The Barons added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, leading by four (10-6).

Trailing 13-7, Saint Vincent scored four runs in the seventh inning as Rudzinski led off the inning with a walk. One batter later, Santana singled to shortstop, advancing Rudzinski to second then he was sent to third on an error by the Barons. The Bearcats then tallied two runs off an error from the catcher. A couple of batters later, Barberich doubled to left field, giving the Bearcats two more runs in the inning as they trailed 13-11.

SVC was scoreless in the eighth inning while the Barons added a run in the bottom half of the inning, leading by three (14-11).

The Bearcats had a dominant ninth inning as Saiani walked to start the inning. After stealing second, Saiani moved to third after a Barberich ground out. Daggs singled to left field as Saiani scored for SVC.
Blake Marshall replaced Daggs on the basepaths and advanced to second on a failed pick off attempt by Franciscan.
Menarchek singled to right field, moving Marshall to third.
Jeremy Kruezweiser pinch hit for Rudzinski and singled to right field, advancing Menarchek to second and sending Marshall home to pull within one (14-13).
In the next at bat, Sabol hit an infield single, sending Menarchek to cross the plate and Kruezweiser to second. Franciscan subbed in Patrick Wallace to take over on the mound. After a wild pitch moved up the runners, Santana singled to center field, scoring Sabol and Kruezweiser to take its first lead of the game, 16-14.
After a leadoff walk, Evans shut down the Barons to secure the win. Evans pitched two innings and allowed two hits with one strikeout.

Offensively, every starter had at least one hit in game two for the Bearcats.

With the split, the Bearcats' record moves to 7-7 overall and 6-5 in the PAC, while Franciscan is 8-5 overall and 8-3 in PAC play.

The two teams will conclude the four-game series on Wednesday, April 7 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Bearcat Ballfield.
