The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team hosted a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup against Waynesburg. The Bearcats won their second match of the season, defeating the Yellow Jackets 3-0.
Prior to the game, SVC honored its three seniors: Danielle Zemba, Hannah Devine and Madison Reeping.
To begin the first set, Waynesburg (2-9, 2-6) and Saint Vincent (2-6, 2-6) exchanged points. The Bearcats then scored 12 of the next 16 points to make the score 14-6. The Yellow Jackets responded by winning seven of the next nine points. Saint Vincent then went on a few small runs to claim the first set, 25-18.
To start the second set, the teams exchanged the opening points until the Bearcats scored five unanswered points to take a 6-2 advantage. Waynesburg battled back to get the deficit down to two (11-9). Saint Vincent then went on a big run winning 10 of the next 12 points giving them a comfortable 21-11 lead. The Bearcats eventually won the set by a score of 25-17 and a two set lead.
In the third set, it was more of the same story. The two teams exchanged points before Saint Vincent went on a big run. The Bearcats scored nine unanswered points to push out to a 12-3 lead. The two teams exchanged points again before SVC scored five straight times. The Yellow Jackets responded with four points in a row but the Bearcats then scored six of the final nine points to claim the final set 25-14.
Becca Miller led the team with 10 kills while Reeping added eight. Carly Augustine led the team with 16 assists and 19 digs. Luciana Polk and Madie Marsico contributed 18 digs each.
The Bearcats will conclude their season on Tuesday, April 6 in Steubenville, Ohio to take on Franciscan University. First serve at 7 p.m.
