Baseball takes on the Barons


Saint Vincent baseball fell to the Franciscan Barons today at Bearcat Ballfield by a score of 6-2.

Franciscan (9-7, 9-5) went one, two, three, in the first inning starting out the game strong for Saint Vincent (10-9, 9-6) pitcher Tom Bash. The Bearcats were held to one hit from Jordan Sabol.

Joshua Costello homered to start the second inning for the Barons. The following batters went one two three to end the half. Saint Vincent went one, two, three, to end the inning. Making the score 1-0 Franciscan.

Not much offense was generated on either side of the ballpark until the sixth inning. Kyle Ferrance scored two runs for Franciscan. The following batter reached on an error and scored an unearned run. Brendan Burke drove in another run to make the score 6-0 Barons. The final out was made and the score heading into the bottom of the sixth inning was 6-0 Franciscan.

Offense finally generated for the Bearcats in the eighth inning. As two runs were scored by Zach VonStein and Jordan Sabol. They were driven in by Julian Santana and Matt Evans. That would be the only scoring of the contest, making the final score Franciscan 6, Saint Vincent 2.

Top performers were Jordan Sabol, Julian Santana, and Jake Saiani who finished the day with two hits per player, with Santana and Matt Evans finishing with one RBI a piece for the Bearcats.

For Franciscan, Brendan Burke and Austin Horan led the Barons with three hits per player. Noah Smith got the win for Franciscan, and Tom Bash took the Loss for the Bearcats.

Baseball is back in action Friday, April 16 with a doubleheader against the Geneva Golden Tornadoes. First Pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
