SVC hosts PAC tri-match


The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at a home Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-match, falling 3-0 to both Chatham and Geneva.
 
CHATHAM 3, SAINT VINCENT 0 (20-25, 18-25, 21-25)
The Bearcats fell to Chatham in the first match of the afternoon. The Bearcats kept it close for much of the match, but Chatham pulled away at the end earning a PAC victory.
 
Luciana Polk led the way for the Bearcats offensively, as she had nine kills and 21 digs in the match. Carly Augustine also had a solid game for the Bearcats, with seven kills, 15 assists, and 11 digs. Caitlyn Figuly added four kills along with two blocks for Saint Vincent. Madie Marsico had 20 digs for the Bearcats.
 
Saint Vincent claimed the first four points of the first set and five of the first seven, giving them an early 5-2 lead. Chatham stormed back, scoring seven points in a row and eight of the next nine which gave them a 10-6 lead. The Bearcats battled back as they went on an 11-6 run, taking the lead 17-16. Chatham would not go away, as they scored the next four points, giving them a 20-17 lead. The teams traded the last few points, and Chatham came away with a 25-20 win in the set.
 
It was all Chatham in the second set, as the Bearcats had just one lead in the set. After the Bearcats scored the first point, Chatham took control and scored the next five, giving them a 5-1 lead. Chatham continued to make it difficult for the Bearcats. Saint Vincent tied the score twice (11-11 and 14-14). Chatham pulled away in the end taking the set 25-18.
 
The third set went back forth as each team traded points for the duration the set. The Bearcats and Cougars were tied at 18. Chatham ended  on a 7-3 run to take the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
 
GENEVA 3, SAINT VINCENT 0 (19-25, 17-25, 20-25)
In the final match of the day, Augustine had 10 kills, six assists and eight digs. Lindsey Kocjancic and Jessica Hughes each had four kills apiece. Marsico led the team with 30 digs, including the 1,000th dig of her SVC career.
 
The first set went back and forth throughout. The match was tied at 13 and then the Golden Tornadoes went on a 7-2 run to take a 20-15 lead. The Bearcats battled to cut the deficit to three, but couldn't recover, as Geneva pulled away to win the set 25-19.
 
In the second set, it was all Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes got out to an 8-3 lead and Saint Vincent never recovered, dropping the set 25-17.
 
In the third set, Geneva controlled early on. The Bearcats attempted to battle back cutting the score to one, 14-13, but Geneva took advantage from this point on. The Golden Tornadoes scored four straight points, taking an 18-13 lead. The teams traded the next few points, but Geneva ended up winning the set 25-20.
 
The Bearcats will get some recovery time, as they have the next five days off. Their next match is Thursday, Sept. 30, when they play host to conference-leading Westminster College at the Robert S. Carey Center. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
